Government Assistance
Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
Benefit for children under 16 who need extra care, parents/guardian complete a detailed form describing the child’s daily needs.
Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
Replaces DLA at age of 16. Assesses how a young person’s condition affects daily living through a form and possible assessment.
Carer’s Allowance
Benefit for people who spend a significant amount of time (35+ hours a week) caring for someone with a disability, including an autistic child (with a DLA). You must earn below a set weekly earnings limit.
Application Support
Advice Plymouth
Drop-In Team offers free and confidential advice. They can help you understand your choices, find the right support, and take practical steps to improve your situation.
They also provide general advice, as well as specialist support with welfare benefits, including ongoing casework where needed.
Quids4Kids
Provide specialist advice for families and carers of children or young people (up to age of 21).
Assessing whether you are able to claim benefits (PIP/DLA) and guide you through the system.

Other Funding Sources
Disability Access Fund
Funding for early years settings (age 3-4) to support children receiving DLA, helping with resources and additional staff.
School Transportation Application
Application to the local authority for transport support if a child cannot reasonably or safely travel to school.
Disabled Facilities Grant
Funding from the local authority for home adaptations e.g. safety modifications, sensory-friendly spaces.
Registering as a Disabled Child
Voluntary registration that helps the council identify needs and may provide access to services and support.
